mike sucks at writing

Here is a website. It’s my website. There are many others like it, but this one…

Well, there are many others like it.

It’s very telling that the site is close to a year old, but i’ve only just now finished the About page. But, it’s also very telling that the site is called Mike Sucks at Writing.

The short story is this: a friend of mine started a site called qsucksatdrawing.com (now defunct, but he’s moved over to feedingthemachine.com) with the thought that the self-deprecating nature of the title would create less pressure to post something “perfect”, as we are all guilty of trying to do, and instead allow him to post something, anything. i thought it was a brilliant idea, so i followed along. We also made a pact to collaborate the sites together: if he posted something, i would write about it, and vice versa, he would draw what i write.

Like i said, it’s been a year… ish. It’s hard to say that the idea has been successful, but i can say i’ve been posting more. Q’s got some other ideas and is actually posting more on his other blog, but we’re still challenging each other.

Most of what i post here has to do with finding my way in this dark tunnel out toward a light; stumblings and triumphs on my way to create these things in my head. There will be posts about my process, about what i’m working on right now, snippets of things that don’t belong anywhere else, other snippets of things that don’t even belong here, but, as i said, it’s my website.
